About Long Day’s Journey Into Night

Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actors Brian Cox (Succession) and Patricia Clarkson (Sharp Objects) reunite on the London stage in A Long Day's Journey Into Night, 'a devastating revival that has never felt more timely' (Culture Whisper).

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play, depicts a summer day in the life of the Tyrones, closely based on Eugene O’Neill’s own chaotically dysfunctional family. ‘Mesmerising and profoundly moving’ (The Independent), this 2024 production of Long Day’s Journey Into Night is a compelling story of love, hate, betrayal, and addiction, delving into the impossible fragility of family bonds.

‘Brian Cox and Patricia Clarkson are tremendous’ (The Stage) as James and Mary Tyrone, anchoring the cast with their powerhouse performances. In the role of James Jr, Daryl McCormack (Bad Sisters, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) delivers ‘a bitterly good performance’ (Financial Times), while Laurie Kynaston (Spring Awakening, Fool Me Once) ‘is the quiet heart of the play’ (Financial Times) as his brother Edmund. There is also ‘a delicious turn by Louisa Harland (Derry Girls, Renegade Nell) as Cathleen’ (Daily Express), the Tyrone’s enduring maid.

Following his recent acclaimed productions such as Best of Enemies, Ulster American, and A Mirror, director Jeremy Herrin presents his ‘magnificent’ (Financial Times) new production of Long Day’s Journey Into Night, now open for a limited season until 8 June at the Wyndham’s Theatre, London.
